Large-scale change and change agency

At the end of the month we will be launching the #ProjectA initiative - improving NHS ambulance services using feedback, ideas and innovations direct from ambulance staff nationwide. 


The Horizons team has been supporting the Empowering People and Communities Taskforce - last week Olly, Kathryn, and Leigh helped facilitate a workshop about personalised care.


Kate nominated Tony Longbone and Jenny Clarke (both of whom are School for Change Agents alumni) for the list of health and care stars for NHS70 - those who have gone over and beyond the call of duty. They were presented with their certificates at Confed last week. Congratulations Tony and Jenny!

In terms of methods & approaches for enabling large-scale change, what are the emerging directions? To note: "more/less" is different to "from/to". With "more/less" we see opposing choices. We typically need to work with both but it's about managing the tension between the two.

Leadership

A new paradigm of leadership is emerging globally. New era leaders are emotionally resilient, have core empathy and understanding. They're able to develop resilience and adaptability in others and in their organisation.


New research shows that when managers are overworked, they tend to over-focus on technical tasks, spend less time on people and treat their teams less fairly. Yet employees who are treated fairly perform better on multiple dimensions according to this article

An interesting blog on how to use social media for networking. Not networking in a creepy way (finding people that are useful to you) but networking in terms of interesting people who share your passions and can broaden your horizons.


You can get a free set of 35 cards on design methods. Useful for general workshop/meeting facilitation, and including everything from empathy mapping to eight rules for brainstorming. You have to share the link and give your email address to get them (the process tends to work better on a laptop than on a phone).
