Change Agency

Helen loves the idea of "relational activism"; Activism means being active for a cause that matters. Relational means being part of a community, building power for change collectively & seeing relationships as the locus for change. Read more here.

Helen has been thinking about how being a change agent requires courage to keep challenging the status quo and staying power. We have to create the conditions and get the support around us where we can thrive/survive.When we get a great new idea for change, our first thought may be to get leadership support... it is often best to first share the idea with friends/peers who'll spread it and offer social proof to others.

Helen has been thinking about the importance of service in health and care. It's root is the word "servant", serving the needs of others first.

Leadership

When it comes to leadership and improvement, many people are nervous about the word "love". Yet love is at the heart of what we do as leaders.  It's a positive sign that the Academy of Management (prestigious leadership research body) has picked love as a key theme for its annual meeting.

Helen has been thinking about how supervisors and middle managers are the key to change and improvement.

Rosie recently started a stretch assignment from Horizons to the Personalised Care Group. She has been working on a fantastic programme called Leadership for Empowered Communities and Personalised Care, which is aimed at senior leaders and clinicians in health, social care and beyond. The aim is to develop leaders who can lead change in co-production with citizens and to embed personalised care across the health and care system. You can find out more about the programme here.

Last Saturday, Helen was in York where she gave a talk at the #AfPPResi19 conference on leadership for the future of the NHS.
