Helen is a massive fan of the #FutureNHS collaborative platform for learning & sharing. Currently, 140,000 people across 2,000 communities in health & care use it. Having everyone on the same system brings many opportunities. This week she facilitated a workshop to explore the potential.

We normally have a weekly huddle at Horizons. We always start with our team wellbeing scores (we use the Warwick-Edinburgh mental wellbeing scale every week) & have breakout room discussions on key topics. We each choose which discussion we want to join.
Being clear about our personal boundaries is key for remote working during the pandemic. Boundaries help let in what’s good & keep out what’s not. They help keep us from negatively impacting others. Signs you might have boundary issues:
When teams work remotely, differences in productivity style are massively (& negatively) amplified. What's your style -a prioritiser, planner, arranger or visualiser? We must value difference & treat others the way they want to be treated
Here's an interesting reframing: We are human beings, not human doings. Let's not equate our self-worth with how well we do things. If we are what we do, then when we don’t…we aren’t. Why not change our KPIs to metrics that reflect this?
As working remotely becomes our way of life, not just a temporary response to a pandemic, think about the fundamental human needs of your virtual team. To what extent are you building trust, hope, a sense of worth & competence into the daily work of team members?
This graphic by Liz and Mollie is spot on. Laziness doesn't exist (in ourselves or others). "Laziness" is usually hidden barriers. If a person’s behaviour doesn’t make sense to us, it's likely we're missing a part of their context.
For the first time since lockdown, Helen shared that she hadn't had a single Teams or Zoom video call for an entire morning. She just swapped them all for telephone calls. Though she never thought she would appreciate the phone so much. She felt some good energy & will do this again.
